You went for the full cleaning and water is okay, just make sure it doesn't get in the controls. And low pressure, too high will force the water where you don't want it to go.
When you clean it like that, you will have to re-season it.
I think you worried too much about the non-foil. Plenty of people use them without foil, they just use a scraper to get the stuff out.
Just get a cheap paint scraper (don't use it for paint) and scrape off the bad stuff.
