My smoker is on its way from TN as we speak. I do I really need the $500 cover or can i get away with something else?

If you plan to store it inside you can get by without any cover. About the only time mine gets covered is if I'm smoking and there is a chance of rain.
I leave my cover on ALL of the time even when smoking. The cover used to cost $100 but the supplier jacked their price on Cookshack. Next time I need one I plan to get one made using the old one as a template. It's got to be cheaper. Living near water we have a lot of boating upholstery/cover fabricators in town. Hopefully Cookshack can find a replacement supplier.
Cover, yes, new price ridiculous. A rip off and out of character for cookshack.

We try to purchase only Made in America products and it has become increasingly difficult to find sewing shops that will do any kind of volume here in the states. We sold the covers for over a year below our cost trying to find another vendor without any success. So, at the beginning of this year we decided that we could not continue to lose money on them, thus the reason for the major price increase. We are currently working on finding a less expensive supplier for our covers and will let everyone know when we are able to lower our prices.
