Keeping grease drain from freezing?

I just went out to clean the smoker from my brisket cook the other night. Good thing I only had one on the smoker because the grease drain was 1/2 full of grease, frozen. Any ideas on how to prevent this in the future?

I would clean it while it is worm ,fire it up 15 min or then clean

XTexan- Are you referring to the part that catches the grease coming from the drip shield, or are you referring to the actual drip pan? If your FEC is level the grease shoudn't be pooling up that much, it should be making it's way to the pan below.

Maybe some of that heat tape they use on plumbing to stop it from freezing in crawl spaces and exposed pipes under mobile homes? You plug it in? I never used the stuff, but I've heard about it.

Put some boards or plywood under the pan to raise it up to the bottom of the smoker then put a heating pad under the drip pan.

Clean it while it's warm (just after cooking) or put it in a hot smoker to warm up the grease, then empty.

I should have been more specific...
The square " tube" part that goes down into the drain pan. The grease froze half way up that tube. I put duct insulation on it ( outside the smoker). We will see if this works.

I've got a steamer at home, blowing hot steam down the hole, gets it all out fast. Also great for cleaning the FEC. Not trying to sell anything, but really think my Steam Cleaner was a match made in heaven for my FEC100. http://www.steam-cleaners-direct.com

I have seen this forum share lots of good knowledge. Recently I purchased BBQ and I have seen there is some gresse on grills. How to clean it and to maintain BBQ good shape for longer duration
