bill,
i darn sure hope so!!!!!
saw the ad myself while laughing at how gordon can bully the people on hell's kitchen.
in the real world i have this generalized feeling that gordon would be invited to "bob for french fries" or some other interesting accident would befall him (like mixing equal parts of sugar and salt together and then refilling his work station with that) but i digress.
if the show kitchen confidential is 1/2 as good as the book tony bourdain wrote it will be a killer show and will give people an insight into the real world that the food network never ever touches on
jack
ps. the salt/sugar thing i was warned to look for when i got my 1st job as sous chef by my old german chef mentor. the bobbing for french fries is one possible outcome for an individual who does this (not saying that i did that lol Razzer )
RibDog - From what I understand from some friends at Fox is that New Line Productions purchased the book rights from Bourdain for a pretty substantial sum and they will co-produce the series with Fox. Bourdain has final, though limited, editing and signoff authority on each show. Other than that, he's not too involved. On the other hand, the producers intent is to keep it as true to the book as possible. BTW - I dined at Les Halles a number of times and loved it.

Jack - I've been to a couple of Ramsey's restaurants a few times and they are outstanding. My brother, who lived in London for a number of years until recently, got to know Gordon as an acquaintance, told me that what you see on the TV show is mild. He spoke of the time when a member of the kitchen staff ran out crying with his head bleeding. A pot hit him in the head. BTW - I don't know if I would want to be the one to introduce Gordon to "bobbing for french fries". Prior to his culinary career, he was a professional football (soccer) player.
dls, yes but as long as it wasn't rugby who cares lol Big Grin
peg however thinks he is a softy!!!!

and again thanks for the link. bourdain beat heroin addiction and quite frankly his fiction books
" bone in the throat" and "going bamboo" are really entertaining and i don't normally read fiction.
pps. like i said i never made anyone bob for french fries lol. that's my story and i am sticking to it
mullet,
even tho i luv my buttermilk with a little salt and pepper and a few dashes of habanero sauce the milkshakes would truly be an acquired taste thing!!!

dave,
where's your sense of adventure??? the food, the chaos, the little pirates (not to mention brides and dumpsters). i have never regretted the day i left running an engineering department and went to culinary school. plus the wahoos ya work with are soooooo much fun. hope you take this with the humor it was meant with. oh and lets not forget the nutz oo customers. today i got an order (and if i'm lying i'm dying) for shredded turkey breast!!!!!!!! all i could think of was the announcers voice in the old news clip of the hiddenburg wreck "oh the carnage oh the humanity"
jack
It shouldn't be a problem since "Kitchen Confidential" reads like a novel! Big Grin Speaking of which, he has a novel out, too - I think it's called "Bone in the Throat" or something like that.

And, yeah, I've done restaurant kitchen work - it never got as weird as Bourdain's adventure but then I wasn't working in NYC!

I do remember one crew bringing in "brownies" back in 1971 - they were REAL popular. And, the after shift parties at the motel pool next door did get interesting.

Waking up some of my crack heads after their break was always exciting.
"Bone in the Throat" is the correct name. In addition to those 2 books, Bourdain's got a few more - "Extreme Cuisine", "A Cook's Tour", "Gone Bamboo", and a few more that I can't recall the names of.

For those who might be interested, he also has a new TV show that starts 07/25 on the Travel (Discovery) Channel called "No Reservations". Show info is here .
If you're a Gordan Ramsey fan, take a look at Kitchen Nightmares on the BBC-America channel. He dosen't go over the top quite as often as on Hell's Kitchen, but he still has his days. When one cook fed him rotten scallops, I really feared for the cooks life. There's a new season starting in December on Tuesdays, and a repeat of last season's four shows on July 24th at 2:00pm-6:00pm.
