Leaky door

I have searched for this but havent seen it addrssed. Sorry if I missed it somewhere in the archives. During the smoking phase of my 008, I see smoke coming out of the door just above the latch up to the corner and left almost all the way arcoss the top. The smoke also comes out of the hole on top which I know is where it should be coming from. Is this leakage around the door a normal part of the breakin or is it possible my door is warped? I have only used it twice now. Once on the breakin smoke (4 hrs)and once on my chicken (for 3 hrs). The door was securely latched both times.

It is normal and should decrease after a few cooks.

At any rate,a slight amount of smoke won't affect anything.

Thanks Tom. I will be doing my best to seal up that door this weekend with ribs, wings, and some of those bacon wrapped jalapenas.

I've had my smokette for over 3 years now and the door still allows a little smoke to escape. Bottomm line, the food still tastes great.

I bet if you wanted you could apply high heat silicone gasket maker. Permatex makes it in different colors(here you would use silver or black)

Just use a little so the preasure on the seal is not that great to force leakage in another section.

I don't recommend your solution. The door is designed specifically by CS to be the way it is, without gaskets. The seasoning of the CS makes it's own seal, but there is always the potential of a little leakage.

The door and latch mechanism isn't designed for a gasket so you've be affecting that mechanism.

Hey, we're smoking with wood. The unit isn't designed NOT to burn smoke nor is the door supposed to seal tight. Remember there is some amount of expansion and contraction in the smoker since it's make with metal.

I have not used any on mine. I used that sealant for the ends of the temp. probe to keep water out.

I would agree with you on the gasket. I didn't think about that when I posted. Good post.
