I read with great interest the mapping of temps in the FE. Thanks, SmokinOkie! Is shelf 1 the one closest to the firepot?

One thing in particular really caught my eye...Eddy's response about the elbow in the exhaust raising the temp in the auger, causing pellets to swell before combustion. How can this be? Only thing I know of that'd make pellets swell is water. If pellets get damp, they'll break apart and jam any auger.

I have done alot of testing in the pellet field and the tube the pellets ride in gets hot near the fire pot. Pellets actually swell some prior to being dumped into the fire. What I have found is a pellet that is very dense( or Candy you may understand as weight per cubic foot) Has more of a swelling factor then one thats softer ( Lighter per cubic foot). It's a balancing act to get good heat which is a good blended pellet thats not overly hard. Most of the bbq pellet makers do a decent job of this.
smokin,

as you know our trailer has been delayed until august 20th which means almost zero practice time before the fla bbq event labor day weekend.

i may have to add 5" vent line to take the smoke to my hood system in the trailer. noticed the popcorn effect if flow is restricted. do you guys think 45 degree elbow out of fec is ok? dont like the idea of a 90. thinking along the lines of a tuned header. nice sweeping bends.
thanks for any help
jack
