Just purchased a new fec 100 in kcmo.
So far very happy with the quality, just have a big learning curve before we compete.

Welcome to the forum and the CS family. You will love your FEC!! There are a LOT of great people here that love to help others!! Also, read as much as you can here as this is a great source of information.
There are quite a few FEC comp folks here in the forum, Fast Eddy being one of them. Feel free to chime in with questions.
KCMO has a bunch in the area,so you can reach out real close.

When the FEC forums started,they were the shared experiences of all the comp guys around the country.Tips,recipes,carry,trailers,techniques,etc
It was recommened that we all read them back thru the archives and copy,or store all that might be useful.

Never competed in anything but our school rib cookoff. It sounds like competition is expensive. not trying to hijack, but aside all the equipment, FEC, Trailer etc, what does it cost a team to run a weekend comp?
We have competed 5 times with mixed results. 5th to DAL. Yes it is not without cost. The big problem is we had a lot of fun, so it is an addiction.

If folks actually price it out,few would do it.
A rough and dirty would look at the actual cost of the truck and trailer.If you cook qualifiers think 1500 mile round trip.Think miss work to get the meats and products on Tues.
Miss work to travel Wed,Thur,at cookoff on Fri.
Motels for as many nights as needed,meals,drinks ,etc.
Fuel at $4/gal.
Entry fee $400?
Comp meats,rubs,sauces,supplies,fuel,etc $400?
Depreciation on a couple FECs ,maybe finish grill,tables,EZ up tent, cambros,coolers,knives/tools / $10,000-$12,000.
Extra cooksite space for trailer $150.
Travel home Sunday.
Miss work Mon to clean trailer,gear,etc.
If you skip all the mentioned stuff above,that you should figure in,maybe only $3,000.
But,that is cheap if you get a walk and can call everybody you know on the drive home.

Boy Tom, you just scared me off from ever doing a comp. Keep this up and you'll have no one to compete against
