New FEC100

I'm not sure what the part number is for the new controller on my new FEC100 but it is amazing. I cooked today and the thing is so quiet you don't even know it's on. It looks great and the cook and hold feature allows you to let it turn itself up or down whenever you want. This thing is badass. But the coolest thing of all is the consistant temps. I've been cooking on Eddy's cookers for a while and never really cared about the temp swings because I knew the end result was always good, but this thing doesn't hardly swing at all. I gotta tell you I didn't think this was possible.
Way to go guys! This thing is great.

I have to agree with you about the results that I have seen. Temp swing is nothing compared to the old controller. Installation was fairly easy also. I love it.

Doc, I have several friends w/FE 100's. Nobody with one w/the new controller. Sounds awesome.

Ray, You will love the new controller. After cooking on the prototype all year it was nothing but awesome. It is hard to believe that there is so little of a swing in temps and you are right it is very quiet. I have a FEC 500 on order and can't wait to get it here.

For all that are interested the part number for the new controller is: PA150 IQ4 for the FEC 100. The part number for the FEC 500 is: PA151 IQ4 controller. These numbers came from Stuart. The reason for the change in numbers is that for one thing you will have to change out two fans instead of one etc...

How does it work on the 500?? I haven't found a probe that would work with a rotisserie.
I have a Stoker, without the blower, for my FEC100. It is very accurate. I want to use it on my FEC500, but no one makes a probe that is completely wireless.

I first heard about the new controller when I attended the FE class in Dec., 05. At that time it was in the prototype phase and one of the functions it was supposed to have is automatic re-lighting if the fire goes out. Did this feature make it into the final design? I can find no mention of the new controller on the CS Website other than installation instructions. I assume that the production is still limited so they don't want to advertise them until they have enough to fill orders. Is there a spec sheet available? Thanks.

It was in the original design but it may not be in the current design. I know there were some questions with KCBS about the legality of it but I think they were cleared up. Check with Tony or John at Cookshack and I am sure they can answer the question.

Ray, Glad to hear a great report from the respected Dr. BBQ. I'm looking forward to attending your class in March. I may bring my FEC500 since it'll still be fairly new and I'm sure it could use some fine tuning from the fine Dr.!
