Quickbooks for small restaurant startup

Can't comment on the restaurant side of it, but.

We use it for our cabinet shop.

It will track the invoices due and payable, taxes, payroll. Give all the reports you could ever want. Do the checks for everything, and make reports on were the money went, and were it came from to track sells history.

It is very powerfull if you have some one to commit to data entry. It will only be as good as the info you feed it.

We have 15 employees, and run about 1 1/2 million through our books. Thier are others out there with other systems, and we bought another one to start, but it was over our heads without some one with accounting experience.

Been using it for over three and a half years at my cafe and other than being a pain to input data (gigo), it is easy to use. My accountant loves it and it interfaces with the bank for fairly seamless integration. Payroll is handled by a third party to insure proper compliance with state and fed regs. ADP is not that expensive.

Thank you both for this input. I've recently been convinced that with regard to employees for my restaurant (still in the works) that going 1099 is out of the question, and thus I want to make sure payroll taxes are as easy to manage as possible.

Here is a company that handles everything online for $47.00 per month. They let you know when paperwork has to be filed to the county, state, feds, and now they will even handle your workers comp reports. All you do is set it up to file electronically and they do the rest. You have every kind of report you would ever need for your employees, plus it figures out their pay. I have been using them for 9 years. I was audited by State Fund, my comp carrier and everything was right on the money. After that audit, I never heard from them again.

I would suggest outside payroll services for any business. Been there done that. You don't save any money doing it yourself and the Quickbooks Payroll system is not very good.
