Hi everyone! I just ordered an FEC100. I was concerned about seeing the threads on on this issue. I was going to purchase from a nearby distributor but decided to call (9/30/11) Cookshack on this first. Talking with Cookshack about my concerns. They informed me that as of "a week to 10 days ago", they have gone back to the "old Style fire-pots". That the cast iron ones were seemingly causing some issue. I asked about my pending purchase with the distributor whether it could be determined if they had the lastest model with the old firepot and was told unless they received what they have very recent ; probably not. I asked if there were any manufacture dates listed on the box to determine this or serial # ? I didn't get the imression that there was a way to make this distinction. They did inform me that the vendor could get the fire-box replaced to ensure me there would be no problem. Sooooo, I ordered from Cookshack direct (2 weeks to build it -- this way, I know I'll get the latest stuff). I informed the vendor of my discussion with Cookshack and they understood why I was hesitant to purchase what they had. They appreciated me letting them know ;and was going to look into it for the units they had.

They sent me a stainless replacement and so far so good. With the cast one, you could just count on a flame out toward the end of a long cook. Now I have finished a 19 hour on a big load of big butts and a couple of 14 hour or so cooks with no problem.

Have to look into it some more, but it seems it takes longer for the smoker to reach set point now and I am using a considerable amount more pellets. Only thing I could guess at would be if there are more holes in the stainless, thus more air flowing through and out of the pipe??? Just reaching here, but it does seem the hopper is dropping a lot faster than before. I can stand a slightly higher pellet bill if that's what it takes to get a good night sleep!
