My FEC100 (about a year old) has the non-digital temp controller that goes from Smoke->180->250->275, etc..Has anyone replaced their older temp controller with the newer Traeger Digital Thermostat Kit ($189.00 from Traeger)? This one has a 225 setting. Any negatives?

I think CS has their own mod in the works, but wondering if anyone has already done this.

Thanks,
D

I have. Problem is the new one won't have 225 on it. The one on the Traeger site is not the one they will ship you. The manufacturer of the controller might be able to modify the new one to 225 for you.

I had the new digital one with 225 installed and went to a cookoff. When I tried to run the invertor with it the unit started flashing, it did not like the power. I had my old unit, that I had converted to a 225 setting also, and replaced the digital one. Thats the one I am now leaving in. I have a commercial thermaworks probe that I leave inside the pit to keep tabs on the exact pit temp. This is much more accurate anyway than the digital readout.
I have a new FE100 with the Traeger controller. I thought the blank setting should be a 225 setting but now that I have cooked with it several times the temp is more like 250. I tryed to drop down to the 180 setting but the cooker runs around 185 to low for me. Wish the 225 worked. 250 changes all of my timings. Good Luck!

Isn't that illegal? Did you contact Traeger about the switch? Since there are no plans on the horizon for a smaller FE/CS 100 I'm considering a Traeger with the optional thermostat. After reading this I'm not sure that I want to do business with a company that baits and switches.
I have a couple of Traegers. FE makes alot better cooker that the Traeger models. Just better fit and finish on the cook shack. I also have one of the new BBQ100 by Traeger and it has the three switch controller and had no temp probe. I have a problem with that. Has anyone switched thiers out for the digital or the older ones and added a probe?

Thanks,
Craig
I purchased a Traeger 075 with the Digital thermostat last month and it came with 180 degrees and no 225. I am stuck with a high of 190 set on 180 or 250-290 set on 250. Have been trying to deal with Traeger but I am having trouble getting them to return my calls. They can't explain to me why they changed the thermostat or why their web site still shows the one with the 225 setting. I didn't much appreciate their solution of setting it on 250 and propping a stick in the door to get the temp down!
