I cant get my thermometer probes thru the vent hole.
1) Does routing them thru the door let in to much air.?
2) does it hurt the probes to force them a little bit more straight so they will go thru the vent hole ?
I am going to put a 7 lb rib roast in in about 2 hours and would appreciate any feedback.
Following Stuarts guidelines of course

It doesn't let in much air but it will likely crimp your wire.

Can you not fit the end of the probe (that goes into the control unit) up through the vent hole)? The only unit out there, Taylor I think, has a 90degree bend that won't let it happen. I've been able to fit every other brand of probe down through the vent hole. You CAN bend them some to fit as long as you don't bend the pointy end where the thermocouple is.
Thanks!! I know,I know, I left myself open!!!
actually, that is what I did, open and put #2 in the Turkey--(two and Turkey start with tee)
I was just cooking 2 so different things and haven't done that before.I pulled the turkey at 170 and double wrapped.Hopefully it will be done otherwise it will go in the oven.
Tom and others routinely close the door on temp probe cables with no adverse effects. Twice, once with a butt and once with a brisket, pinching the cable in the door gave me a false reading that almost ruined both cuts. My temps on these two attempts held at 185 and didnt budge until I opened the door. Then they jumped to 220+. Its down through the vent hole for me from now on.
