Is there any difference between a Smokette ordered from Cookshack direct or picking one up at Cabelas? I notice quite a price drop on the Cabelas "Smokette II" and was wondering if the unit is made to a "spec" for Cabelas at a sacrifice in quality or features? I was at Cabelas yesterday checking them out and really liked the unit but I had seen that the interior seam welds were tack welds and not buffed out and I was under the impression that the Cookshacks used full welds on their seams? I'm wishing I would have gone ahead and bought one because it's a little rainy out today, I'm bored and all this lurking on the forums has me drooling for some smoked anything!!
The bottom fell out (rusted) of my Masterbuilt 7in1 last weekend so I want to buy a unit thats gonna last me a good long while. I may even spring for the 009 just due to the cleanability. I'm a little "Monkish" that way Big Grin
Thanx for any help or suggestions.

You have to respect that Cookshack supports their distributors in many different ways.

I once bought a software franchise and all it cost me was buying about $2K worth of their software. I traveled around the country working computer shows on weekends. Anyway, I bump into another guy who says they charged him $5k to buy the franchise and then he had to also buy the product. Two weeks later the company began competing against both of us at the computer shows often undercutting even the prices they charged us for the product. The company's name is or was Arts & Letters. At one time huge a huge player like Corel or Adobe. I remember their final offering that I saw was just repackaged from the previous year.

Didn't mean to go off topic but like Smokin said you are talking about the same product.
Thanks folks for the replies. Tonight I went ahead and bought the unit I saw at Cabelas last Saturday. The Smokette they had on display was an 009 and it turns out that was the last 009 in stock but that they would be glad to sell me the display model. I asked if they could knock the price down some so the salesman (nice fella) made a phone call and came back saying they would take 10% off so I couldnt pass that up. Nothing wrong with the unit as far as I can see and its out on the patio as we speak seasoning away. Can hardly wait till Saturday when I have time to cook something to eat! Any suggestions on a first smoke would be appreciated and I'm sure I'm going to have a bunch of cooking questions coming up which I'll try to make sure they go to the proper forum. Thanx again.

stubby20,
Most recomendations are for a fatty piece of pork like a shoulder or butt for the first cook. Sure agree about the electronic thernometer. You are close to many rural areas and probably can find a butcher or local to get you some brisket. Let me know when you go by the train depot. Yuengling caves. I didn't know they had them..cant get it here.
Cabelas prices on cs models are really good- model 08 last time I looked was $399.00 model 50 was $799.00...when some demo units go to their bargin cave well the price turns from good to great ex. was in their Ft. Worth, Tx. store about two weeks ago they had just put a model 50 out for $580.00....So if someone is holding off because of that Mexican disease fundsolow..call around to their retail stores in the U.S. and check to see if they have any in the bargin cave, they will rebox and ship....goodluck
