It really depends on your needs. I can fit three racks of spare ribs in my 009. I could probably get six pork butts crammed in if they aren't too big. I've done three briskets at once but you have to rotate them. The 55 gives you more shelves (5) thus more options. You could put 3 racks of spares and a pan of baked beans in to smoke while the ribs are cooking. I could feed 20 people no problem and more if I plan the cook ahead.
I had to decide also, and I'm really glad I went with a 55. You'll always find a way to use the extra room, whether it's cooking for a big crowd or smoking something that requires a lot of grill space like chipotles, etc.

The extra room also makes things easier. I'm sure I could manage to hang sausages in a smokette, but it's so much more convenient in a mod 55 that it's well worth the extra cost.

The mod 55 has an almost perfect form factor for my needs. I wouldn't want any less capacity.
I actually bought the smokette and found it too small. I called Cookshack and they didn't have any problem in me returning it even after I have used it a couple of times. This was within my no hassle warranty so don't try to return a 3 year old smokette.

I told Cookshack the smokette was too small and wanted to get the 55. No problem...they sent me the 55, the bill and I sent back the smokette.
Thanks to everyone for all the input, I know this question is probabaly repeated often about comparing smokers, but this give me direction. Although the smokette looks to be a fine smoker I have ordered a model 55 today due to the capacity that it will hold. Again thanks for all the input.

John
