I have a new 16' trailer with a door wide enough for my new and still sparklin FEC100. I want to be able to use the smoker in the trailer and out but need an easy way for one person to move it in and out. I'm a pretty strong dude and I can lift as much as I could 20 years ago but it hurts a lot more! Any suggestion???
use a ramp. I'm 67 and bring it in and out on a ramp. Have at times accepted help from neighbors. Just be careful as the FEC is somewhat top heavy and can come crashing down upon your body if you are not careful. Don't ask me how I know!
My mom was born in your fair city and I grew up in Lexington. Small world!!!
Top heavy!! That's what I'm worried about with a ramp. I will have to get my 14 year old to do the math for me on how long it should be based on the hight from the ground to the floor of the trailer to determine the length of the ramp.
There are two ways southerners die that are almost unique to the south: 1) They fall asleep in the road and get run over 2)They are crushed by vending machines that they have turned over on themselves
Todd, a little more detail please. --------------------------------------------------- There are two ways southerners die that are almost unique to the south: 1) They fall asleep in the road and get run over 2)They are crushed by vending machines that they have turned over on themselves ------------------------------------------------------ 1. Why would they fall asleep in the road. 2. A vending machine, hopefully not a Kotex machine, that would look bad in the death notice. I guess as long as it's a Molson or Labatts machine I guess that would be OK.
So, your trailer doesn't have a ramp now and only a door?
I personally think it would be better to buy a 2nd one than try to move it in and out all the time. It weighs over 400lb (I think) and trying to man handle it in and out of the door will get old --- fast.
Plus once it starts getting grease on the stack, who wants that end.
And if you're trying to get it out the door (is the door tall enough for it to go staight out?) you'll have to put it on it's side and you really shouldn't 1) you can put the full weight on the hopper side and 2) you shouldn't put that weight on just the stack side.
I'm thinkin' but I don't see an easy option if it's not a ramp.
You could buy a new trailer with a ramp, but the 2nd FE is cheaper... LOL
I have the same problem. I bought a ramp that would support 1200 lbs. We then put an electric winch in the front of the trailer that is operated by a remote "fab". I can load and unload my FE by myself and anything else too heavy to lift. Harbour Freight is where I purchased it. The cost was only about $60 or $70 dollars. Shop online for the ramps.
