This may have been discussed in a previous forum question. I purchased a Model 008 recently and I am still in the process of learning the 'smoking ropes'. One thing I would like to know and monitor is the internal temperature of the smoker. My question is, Is it OK to mount a dial thermometer thruogh the door or wall of the smoker? Would it void the warranty? I do have a Polder to monitor internal meat temperature, but have no means to monitor the cooking/smoking temperature. Any help on this subjet would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Ditto on what thebear said. L.A.BBQ if you have a dual temp Polder that works please share with us what you did to get it to work for more than a week. I've gone through three in four months. The first one I used right out of the box, The second one I tried sealing where the wire enters the probe with RTV silicone, the third one I used a non conductive metal paste on, and finally I solved the problem and the aggravation that it was causing me by throwing it in the trash! Now that I have a little more experience smoking the Taylor works fine for me.

Mine didn't last through the first cook. Mad

I have a Taylor that has been used every time my Smokette has since I got it in Sept. Big Grin

If I want to know what the oven temp is, I just stick my instant read down through the vent hole for a minute.[/qb]

Ditto!!! I went thru 3 Polder dual sensor thermometers in a week. Kept saying temps were way off the charts. The last one said that it was 256* sitting on my countertop over night. When i brought it back it said 298* in the store.

SmokinOkie, I took the back off my 008 and replaced my insulation with new stuff from CS. I noticed that their sensor wire goes through the back wall. Made me wonder if a second sensor could go through the same hole.....
Gentlepersons:

I have one of those. Had for about 2.5 years. My brand name is Maverick but it is identical.

It is nice to have the remote and the dual function. However, may times my unit looses it's signal to the remote and then I have to go to the remote to see the temperature. It seems to work well during the first 5 or 6 hours but can be variable after that. Check in other posts on how I sealed up the probe at the juncture of the wire.

I got mine from Hi Mountain for $49. I'm not sure they are selling them anymore though.

Just my 2 cents.
