Smokemaster,
The things in our favor are hard copies of all emails outgoing and incoming, telephone confirmation letters sent registered, return reciept and a before purchasing visit to their plant. Also we are witholding final payment until the trailer is delievered to us. I still think that they are trying and I feel that what happened is they overbooked work and all it took was one supplier being late, which in this case is the hood supplier, and everything snowballed from there.
As far as patience goes what can you do? So far this started in May so while yes I suppose I could take them to civil court it would be months before that case was heard. In the meantime I would have to drive to Miami to retrieve my smokers and that I am also sure would require a court order. Which is why I can't stress enough the importance of onsite visits prior to purchasing and doing a lot of homework before you select a builder. But yes as peggy said they did make concessions to us so while we aren't fully happy at least we feel some progress was made.

Don't get me wrong, I believe that you are doing the right thing by waiting. As a practical matter you have few good options.

I will tell you that if I were the trailer manufacturer I would give you something to make you whole and it wouldn't be a handshake and a hearty hi-ho. Something valuable, thrown in for free, would be appropriate here in my humble opinion.
chateau,
you could have left out the if, and when and I would not have cared Razzer .If the owner would not have called us then we were preparing to look at our options. But I still feel after offering us some concessions and in view that the owner spoke with me for over a half an hour (and he made the call to me) that they simply got snowballed. I remember when i was running an engineering department for at the time the world's biggest hollow metal manufacturer we had a one week delay in a shipment of steel which snowballed us back 6 weeks so in a way I am kind of sympathtic. and we have seen his facility so when he was talking to me i knew how many bays he has and the size of the plant and everything in his explaination matched up with that.
you bet there will be pics sent and by the way cookshack extended my warrantys and aren't even requiring the copy of the bill of sale to prove the day of delievery like i offered to do. is that cool or what?????

ok here is the latest,
just like they said they would i got my status report on the 25th.
on the 26th alex gave a build date of 3 days not counting saturday and sunday.
this gives a completion date of the 31st.
hopefully with the hurricane coming they will deliever the 1st or 2nd
jack
well guys
this is the latest.
at 9 a.m. got a call from greg the owner.
they are doing everything they can to complete the trailer this thursday and deliever this friday which would be great in view of our latest friend from equatorial africa!!!!!
from what i understood the people that do their delieveries can drive at night so if everything goes right we should have the rig safe and sound in it's spot early friday. thankfully the 48 hour rule for hurricane insurance does not apply to things like vehicles and trailers and i am sure our agent will love getting the cover us call thursday if they are shipping friday.
hope everyone stays safe and sound and from the looks of things francis should turn just like floyd did and no one will suffer any damage.
thanks for your well wishes
i still think trailer tech is an honest company for those of you still thinking about something like this
jack
well here's the latest,
frances was closing in way too fast
told the owner to leave the trailer in the build out bay and to let his guys go board up and protect their families. looks like the 'cane will come in north of them which is good as they will not be in the eastern quadrant which is the worst part of a hurricane.
we will sort all of this out tuesday but i sure would never risk another guys life just to deliever a trailer and after watching the 11.30pm news I-4 and I-95 are parking lots all ready so like the grateful dead said "what a long strange trip it's been"
hope all the florida people in this forum are safe and our thoughts are with you
jack
ps man starting up a business is fun!!!!!!!!!!
here's the latest for those of you who have followed this thread.
OUR TRAILER IS BEING DELIEVERED FRIDAY!!!!!!!
OUR STORAGE FACILITY JUST GOT POWER RESTORED SO THE GATE WORKS!!!!!
IT WILL BEAT HURRICANE IVAN!!!!!!
peggy and i want to thank everyone who has followed this and wished us well. your kindness certainly bolstered us up when it got tough.
i hope this thread helped those who were thinking about starting up with what problems you can anticipate and i hope it helped you.
we will still have to do the final florida state inspection but they are nice enough to provide us with the 4 page check list they use so we have plenty of advance warning.
the only fly in the ointment is i started a new job so peggy gets to see it first!!!! and if that is the worst i can say than it is no problem.
again thanks guys!!!!!!

2 Greyhounds....SMOKIN!!!!
ps will get pics and send them in
SHE'S HERE!!!! Jack hasn't seen her yet. He's working a split shift today. She has an upright refrigerator, a chest freezer, 2 burners, 1 3 section food warmer, 1 3 section chiller, triple sink with a work surface that comes down over it, hand sink, fire extinguisher, customer service windows, a door with a lock, electric brakes, air conditioner.....and 2 FINE looking smokers under a 5 foot hood system!
I just got a digital camera for my birthday, but haven't figured out the workings, yet. Too many hurricanes! I'll get a disposable camera tomorrow and we'll put pics on disc and send them on over.
Now, there is supposed to be another nasty called Ivan coming. I have the trailer insured but still don't want to start all over again, so we'll just send Ivan to Mexico or somewhere!
Thanks for your good wishes!
Peggy
Congratulations Peggy and Jack on finally getting the new trailer. This thread has certainly produced a lot of good information for those of us interested in getting into the mobile Q business. Looking forward to meeting you at an FBA event and checking out the trailer whenever the hurricanes decide to leave us alone.

Randall
Thanks, Randall. Now I'm trying to get title and tags. Seems like I can't get anything done in one trip! I think I'm just too excited and need to calm down just a bit. The paper giving me possession of the trailer wasn't enough for the tag people. I had to have a "bill of sale", the agreement showing the price I paid and the possession paper and the insurance wasn't enough. Greg sent me another invoice showing I paid them. Hopefully, this will solve that problem! Getting electrical parts to make an extension cord is kind of tough, since they require the same parts needed to hook up a generator. Those parts are in short supply right now due to the storms.

Thanks to everyone here.
Peggy
