Are you looking for smallwares or actual cooking equipment? I have found really good deals on E-bay for things that are small (skillets, silverware, warming plates, etc.) but all of the bigger cooking equipment has not compared with what I can buy locally once you get crating, shipping, insurance and uncrating charges added in. Not to mention the fact that you are in the case of used equipment really buying things sight unseen over the web.

I ordered some hotel pans from ebay. I could have gotten them cheaper from Restaurant Equippers in Ohio, better quality, too. They also offer some used equipment. I like to see appliances, etc. before I buy. Restaurant Equippers has a website you can request a catalog from. They were very pleasant to deal with, I liked the quality of the merchandise I bought from them(we bought new smallwares), and they shipped promptly.
I keep looking for restaurant equipment auctions and haven't seen any in the paper. One source here is the school board. They sell excess equipment in Jacksonville, FL from the school cafeterias every once in awhile. It might be worthwhile checking into that, or maybe hotel chains in your area.
