We have two model 150s with the Cookshack hood. We just vent the hood to the outside. Cookshack has a great letter regarding testing on the 150 with their hood. No other hood should be required. Contact CS customer service and get a copy of the letter and show it to your regulator. If you have smokers larger than the 150 you may need a regular hood with Ansul. This was one reason we went with two 150s rather than the larger model.
The opening on the 150 hood has a PVC pipe fitting mounted to the exit of the blower fan. You simply vent to the outside using PVC pipe. We came up about two feet and into a 90 degree elbow and then out the back wall. There is no high temperature involved so the PVC works fine.

I'll admit that I was skeptical at first but it worked without any problems and our inspector thought it was the neatest thing he had seen. The key is to have a copy of the test report letter from CS. Otherwise the regulators will never accept installing these without the larger expensive hoods.
John, how far up does your PVC extend out the back wall? thanks for the info. very helpful. I"ve been looking into actual woodburning stove chimney kits but wasn't sure that was necessary for such low temps.

the 150 hood must be different than the 250. The outlet on my 250 hood is a rectangle approx 3"x4".
We went up from the smoker exhaust fan flange about two feet to a 90 degree bend to the back wall. We went out the back wall about one foot and then put another 90 degree elbow pointed toward the ground. This was done to keep rain from coming back into the piping to the smoker. The only thing sticking outside the buiding was the one foot of pipe with a 90 degree elbow turned down. It's that simple. The 150 hood does use round pipe. The exhaust fan exit flange has a PVC end cap mounted to it. The end cap has a hole drilled to allow the smoke to exit. The PVC pipe is the white 4" PVC sewer pipe. I do think there is a difference between PVC sewer pipe and PVC schedule 40 water pipe. I took the PVC end cap with the hole in it off of the flange and took it to the local home depot so I got the correct size. I did not even cement the sections of pipe together so that we could eaisily remove to clean. There is a residue that builds up over time. We cleaned it once every couple of weeks. This is all much more simple than it sounds. Happy plumbing.
