Back edge of FE Platform. Ramps behind the platform are upside down. Two bolts in each one drop into the support flanges. They are about 70 and provide enough angle to allow me to put the cooker on by myself. The Excursion is lifted so others may not need that length. Most times its just the wife and I loading. Shes not going to lift it from the ground to the platform.

Once the FE is on the platform it rolls into two u-channel capture points. Both points have a bolt that goes through the FEs leg and a piece of steel acting as the washer. The oversize washer keeps the nut from collapsing the leg. The turnbuckles locations here are just handy for not losing them while the FE is off the platform.

Steel rods on the back of the ramps are for added support. Probably over kill.

Shows the Excursion completely loaded with all supplies and the FE in position. Dont want to lose my new toy so here is a run down of the securing points. The u-channels w/ bolts, a padlock between the two u-channel points (we still have bad guys here in the Wild West), two turn buckles (they keep the cooker pulled down) and two ratchet straps. One strap goes around the FE to ensure the door stays shut and to keep the hopper from vibrating lose (cardboard between the hopper and cooker provide the inboard tension). The second strap is because its a new setup and we only have about 2000 miles of testing with the cooker onboard. The longest drive has been about 7 hours each way.

Shows the primary and largest turnbuckle. The attachment point on the bottom is the right side receiver shear pin.

Shows the cooker legs bolted into place along with the padlock latch point. We also added additional horizontal supports for the cookers legs.

Shows both turnbuckles in place. Not even hand tight on these. They pull down so well that they will flatten the wheels (new fatty tires coming). Ramps are stored in traveling position and bolted down.
I just emailed the text to SmokinOkie. Hope it helps someone with ideas.

The number one issue for me was to not have a trailer behind and do 55 mph on the road. It also needed to be something that would allow me to load it by myself if needed.

After a few road trips now I can say that it keeps the FE square behind the rig without any bouncing or banging around. The double receivers keep the platform as steady as the frame of the Excursion.
