Use an exhaust stack on the unit with an elbow,2 foot section and a dryer vent at the top. Found that the screen on the dryer vent can clog up with carbon and it will block the air flow. Once this happens, the moisture and heat now go out the hopper. Glad the ye have asked what does moisture and heat do to the pellets in the hopper. They swell up and disintegrate and block up the feed auger with pellet dust. Said pellet dust now ignites and travels to the the pellet hopper via the drop chute where the pellets in the bottom start to ignite. It is fun to empty the hopper at 4am at a contest and then hand sift the pellets to get enought to complete the cook. Had mine since '05 and still learning.
