I purchased the 50 and I'm very happy I did over the smokette. I've cooked ribs for 30 + people, and now do a lot of Q's for friends and family. Tomorrow I'll be doing a nice brisket, a pork shoulder and 4 racks of ribs. I don't think you'll regret getting the bigger unit in the end.
Welcome to the forum.
Steve.
I bought the 008 because it suits my needs 95 percent of the time for family meals. However, I have cooked for upwards of 100 people, though I have to break it into multiple smokes. I can cook a pork butts and briskets to feed a crowd. But unlike formosabbq, I'm really limited to how many I can feed ribs.
I'm thrilled with my Smokette. It's been big enough for our family needs with enough leftovers to freeze for later. But...

I went to a buddy's house on Saturday along with a few other BBQ fanatics. My buddy cooks on a custom Klose pit that is huge. He had the vertical section filled with jerky, and in the horizontal section he had three slabs of loin backs, three slabs of spares, four fatties, two turkey breasts, and we still had room for some smoked peanuts and a pan of beans. For a group, it was nice to be able to have all of that in the smoker at once. If I had it to do all over again, I'd still buy a Cookshack since I love the ease of use, but I would probably go for a 55 instead of the Smokette.
