Hi, sorry I have not written anything in a while, but I've been busy smoking. Many of you have stated before the ICQ3 controller's release, that the best combo for two smokers would be a FEC100 and SM150. Now that the FEC100 can be controlled and made to perform has a food holder, do you still think that the best combo is a SM150 and FEC100?

for me we will be sticking with our two sm150's and the fec100 (all of which are pre-ICQ3 models)
the fec is superior for chicken and biscuits and on smoke setting attracts quite a few customers. the fact that it is a pellet muncher attracts a lot of curiousity and we use that to our benefit in sales.
the sm is superior on briskets and picnics and butts and since it has a more humid enviroment for my money makes the superior holder.
it's just my 2 cents (well a little more than that since when we needed greater capacity i chose another sm150 over the fec)
now if i could just get the bucks i know a great bbq joint in georgia that's for sale that all three could have a happy home in Wink
I suppose I would ask where and what you would be doing. The convenience of the SM150 is without question, pretty much set it and forget it. In a place with power, and if you buy a SM 150 you are pretty much in the smoking business, if you have all the rest of the pork lined up. If you are going to be moving around and in temporary type locations, since the FEC100 burns pellets you can run it off an inverter and a battery if necessary. As Jack said the pellets help to draw a crowd.

I personally am still looking at one of each as the best way to go in most situations. Smiler
jerry,
thanks for pointing out the downside to the sm150. the 1500 watt draw is big and in a mobile setting is something to be considered for sure. there is no way i could have both sm150's in the rig with only two 3000 watt gennies. still like the fec and sm combo for that reason a lot. well that plus the fact the fec throws a bunch of smoke in the air to attract customers Big Grin but for sure the 50 watt draw of the fec is something to consider generator wise.
