I live in a neighborhood. Our lot backs up to 100 acres of woods. We have deer, coons, coyotes, skunk and probably a lot more that I am unaware of. The drip pan has been left out on several occasions and we've never had a problem. I would be more concerned with the neighbor's dog. But "HEY," we're talking wild animals here and anything & everything is possible!
We don't have bears around here.

The end of my property is my dumping ground for carcasses during hunting season and fish this time of year. The buzzards and other animals stay down there.

Mice can manage to get up into the smoker through the drain hole.

Never had any other problems.

I keep my vent hole plugged when not in use with a bolt and large flat washer with one of those nuts with a nylon insert. It keeps bugs out. Plus I keep the smoker covered with an old towel, plus it's on my stand and kept in my garage......

It seems when I smoke, it attracts flies?? don't know why?? I smoke in my garage, it's a 24X30 foot with a 14 foot high ceiling...I use a window exhust fan when smoking....works fine and I'l always out of the weather....

This thread reminds me of a story my brother relayed a few years ago. There was one particular golf course that he played where a little fox would follow him at a distance everytime he was there. Once, he mentioned it to the staff at the course, and they were surprised because they said they rarely saw the fox. The only thing he could figure out to explain it wass that the fox could smell his golf club bag, as he stored his clubs in the smoker shed behind the restaurant.
