Congrats! If at all possible I would try to season it Friday afternoon while CS is still open, just in case you need their help with any trouble shooting, not that the forum wouldn't try to help. We are just far from the experts that they are.

So which smoker did you get and were in VA if I may ask? (Just saw your other post where you got the 045. Great choice.) I'm in northern VA just outside the DC beltway. Jer

I actually got an 040 not the 045. I wanted a black unit and found one through Cabela's. I'm south of you, a little outside of Richmond. Did my first smoke yesterday, a small bison brisket and some turkey laegs and everything turned out very good. This is a learning experience for me. I've been using a large offset firebox charcaol and wood pit for the last 5 years.

Nice unit. I also have the 040 and really like it. Don't miss not having a built in probe since I use my remote anyway. I read your post on the bison brisket. Interesting for sure. Wait till do your first pork butt. Almost impossible to do wrong with smoking one of those. Jer
