I'm having a hard time visualizing the size of the Smokette. The measurements make it sound awfully small. How many whole chickens can you do at once, what size turkey could you smoke. I'm trying to decide between the Smokette, the 50, or the Bradley. I see from the posts here that the Bradley is not well liked! It is bigger than the Smokette and cheaper! Thanks!

I have a smokette for a couple of years now. The 50 would, clearly, be better. There are three racks in the smokette, but the bottom is Soooooooo close to the firebox. I generally use the other two. So... One big brisket flat per rack. couple racks of ribs per rack. 2-3 chickens (small) per rack. One turkey will fill the box. The 50 has 2 more racks, so much more flexible. Then again, I can do 4 butts (like 25 lbs) at once, ahead of time, then refridgerate, then do 2 or 3 briskets (18 lbs more) on game day, then serve enough food to feed 40 people out of that smokette....

helpful or confusing?? Eeker
ej,

About the bradley. Before you buy it, consider the construction and the cost of buying their fuel. You can't use other wood, you have to use theirs.

I think you can get an idea about what you can cook here, by looking at the various recipes in the recipe forum.

They use the same size grill 14" x 14".

They 50 has 5 racks, the Smokette has three.

They are 4" apart in the Smokette and 5" apart in the 50.

You can take racks out in any sequence you want to get room, for a Turkey for example.

ej,
I to looked at the Bradley and was convinced that it was the thing I wanted, until I came to this site and hung out and read some posts.

My reasons for buying the smokette were, it was about the right size and the most important was that the people on this forum, although they will help all who enter, use cookshacks and believe in them and can give great advice on using them properly. Thanks to all on that one!!

Only 2 members in my family although a few relatives come around often. I would say from my expeience that if you have more than say 4 people in your family that are serious eaters, maybe go with the mod 50-55. I have done an 18lb turkey in mine and can usually put in 3 or 4 roaster size chickens.

All in all I can't say enough good about my smokette, although I still use the ECB when I need it.

EJ, I too considered a Bradley prior to discovering cookshack and the main reason I went with cookshack was that I did not want to get tied down to buying their biscuits for fuel. They (the biscuits) seemed expensive and I have too often run into situations where someone will stop making a certain component and then I'm stuck with something that really wouldn't even make a very good anchor. Cookshack, as I am sure you have already discovered, allows you to use anything from chunks of wood to pellets and their service is just outstanding. How often have you seen the president of any other company making posts on a message board?

That said, I purchased my smokette last year and have successfully cooked BBQ for up to 40 people, but if you are thinking of going commercial, I'd go large!! Big Grin
