Well Demopolis AL cookoff this weekend and we will be cooking thru the night in literly freezing weather. When asked about my sanity I responded if so I am not alone that this cookoff has been full for over a decade! They didnt even allow RV's until just a few years ago. Maybe we are just a bit whacky!
Byron is Buttrub.com ,that ya'll all know the rubs.He has been cook of the Year/Team of The Year for KCBS and one of the best for many years
The wind is blowing off the water and everybody freezes, all your water hoses freeze up.
These are many of the top Memphis in May cooks with much experience and KCBS cooks that have traveled from the far frozen North.
The major concern is holding your cooking temps, keeping the wind from affecting the fires and cookers are wrapped in big insulated wrappers.Cooks may be feeding the stickburners every half hr all night.
RVs weren't allowed,so cooks are sleeping in a lawn chair beside the cooker-because it puts out your only warmth.
Then there are the Cookshack folks with their FECs.
Insulated to over 800º the wind and cold don't affect them.
Pour the pellets in and set the dials.
How about freezing your butts off?
Fast Eddy taught us to get the big meats on between 8PM and 9PM,go to the motel and get a warm night's sleep.
Come back about 6AM when it is time to get the ribs on and see what is being served for breakfast.
I know this doesn't sound like much-until you have to live it.
