I just don't eat BBQ out and thought I'd ask the forum. Yes, I know it's not as good as your as home, but you have to have a favorite or two when you go out.

And this can be anywhere in the US.

Tell me the name of your Favorite Q Restaurant, list the URL and tell me why you like it.

Was it the food?
Something specific on the menu?
Something unique/cool on the website?

No, you can't ask why Wink Guess all you want and you probably won't be right anyway.

We did discuss this last year, it was more basic than this. Now I'd like specifics.

Thanks in Advance.

Since I did guess correctly last time here is my favorite.

Full Moon BBQ, headquartered in Birmingham Alabama. Of course the food is good, but all the places are pretty much decorated the same, and it just makes you feel good when you walk in the door. To me, that's the first impression, and you never get a second chance at that. Even if something else is not perfect, when you feel good about something minor things do not become big things.

In the south pork is king, and you can just count on good quality food each visit.

It's hard to say, but something about the place just makes you want to go back. Figure that out and you've got it. Good luck.

Real Urban BBQ Highland Park, IL. Close to work, so I can pop up and get some burnt ends every now and then. Not a big fan of their sides though. Website is nothing special, but they're always posting something on facebook, almost daily. The owner, Jeff, posted in the Pro's forum a few years ago about their start up.

And another fave is North Main BBQ in Euless TX. About 20 minutes SW of DFW airport. Been down to Irving Tx for training the last few years, always stop off for lunch on the way home. They're only open Fri, Sat & Sun. It's a little all you can eat dive, but the place is always packed and pretty good food. Ribs & sausage are my faves there.
My favorite is Oklahoma Joes, formerly of Stillwater and now located in a gas station in Kansas City, KS. I understand they are branching out though. The gas station has zero ambiance, but the carolina is still good (although it has been two or three years since I was able to get up there).

Best Carolina pulled pork sandwich I've ever had. The spicy slaw is outrageously good on this sandwhich and the pork was always properly pulled and smoked just right. Nice bite, good smoke.

I think their side dishes are generally pretty good, or at least they used to be. They have smoked chicken gumbo, red beans and rice, dirty rice, and good fried stuff.

My fave used to be Texas Traditions, it was run by a transplanted Texan, and his NJ girlfriend. It was in East Hanover, NJ. It has been gone for over 6 years now. His wings were outrageous, and his GF made a kickin buttermilk dipping sauce, all the food was great.

I visit my parents in AZ, and I am going again next week on vaca. I will visit a restaurant we all love called Bobby-Q. It is on N. 27th Ave. in Phoenix, AZ. The menu is terrific, everything we try is awesome and the decor is really nice, western, but chic and cool. http://bobbyq.net
Kreuz Market in Lockhart TX is an awesome place to experience. It is a huge place and the ribs and brisket are to die for!! It is the self proclaimed BBQ Capital of Texas and has 3 or 4 other BBQ joints in town but Kreuz's is my fave. They have no silver ware and all the meat is served on butcher paper. Well worth a visit!!

Rudy's is a chain in TX and OK and I have eaten at many of them and always been very pleased with what I ordered. They offer lean and moist brisket which is the flat and point with the flat being the lean. I much prefer the point which is always very moist and tasty. The main thing I like about Rudy's is it is very consistant from store to store and always very good. They have an incredible creamed corn and great iced tea with plent of lemons to add to it. They also have 4 or 5 checkout lines when they are busy so it goes fast. They also sell their meat by the lb so you always get what you pay for that way. Very nice atmosphere with large screen TV's to watch the game on as well. I just wish we had some BBQ in Nebraska as plentiful as it is in TX. I always look forward to traveling in TX for the BBQ.
Everyone in San Diego would probably say Phil's BBQ. While it's good, and they are building one 2 miles from my house, I still like the mom and pop feel of Bull's Smokin' BBQ in San Diego. It sits in the shadows of USD, and near one of the greatest micro breweries in the country. Ballast Point is just a mile a way. Of course the beer on tap usually features one of the fine Ballast Point selections, and that's a plus for me. More and more you can't go anywhere in San Diego without a fine San Diego Micro brew as a choice.

But back to the BBQ and the main question. Why do I like the place. I mentioned the beer already. The restuarant seating area is comfortable and has a rustic outdoor chuck wagon patio. Dogs allowed! I have been there several times, and can't stop ordering the Duo sandwich. You get your choice of 2 halfs and I always get the pulled pork and beef brisket. The bread is delicious but doesn't outshine the meat. Both meats are tender, smokey, and the house made sauces are a real compliment. My favorite side is the Mac N Cheese. Something about the crumbled up Cheese gold fish crust with the soft melt in your melt sauce and pasta. MMM. Good stuff.

The number 1 reason I come back...the owner. He has been there every time I have gone, and every time he has stopped by the table to say hello and to ask me how I am doing. He treats you like an old friend and offers to bring you a sample of something or more corn bread. It's a nice touch and its that sort of attention to the customer that I think he will do well. The food alone should be enough, but withour the owner it might just be another Phil's. Great food, but nothing else to say.
