I'm still of the opinion that the issue is related to the cold temps. Can you roll the unit into a warmer location, at least to get it started?

The other thought is to wet a a terry hand towel and get it hot as possible. Release any excess water and lay it over the touch pads for a couple of minutes. You really need to push HARD on those touch pads when they're cold.
Just thought I might try to help someone else out.

I talked with Eddy last week and discribed the problems I was having starting the FEC100 in cold weather. He said to power on the smoker and let it run thru it's start up sequence and it might take 5 min. or so in cold weather (18* at the time). I tried at 5 min. and it would not let me enter time or temp. Let it go probably 10 min. and was able to enter the time, temp., hold, etc. without problem. Thanks
