frayed wires

Hi everyone,
I went to use my Smokette tonight and noticed that the wire looks like a squirrel has been knawing on it a couple of places. There's only one spot that worried me a bit because the copper from the black wire was visible. I wrapped it up with some electrical tape (had to put my Butt in....been drooling for it all week). The smoker seems to working fine but I am bit nervous about it.
I am guessing that I can get a new cord from Cookshack next week. Any thoughts? How bad is to go ahead and let the smoker run overnight?

Correction -- smoker won't turn on. Dang squirrel..
now what? I've got a PB nice and thawed and no smoker..

Shoot the squirrel and make some Brunswich Stew. Call CS on Monday and get a new cord sent to you.

Well, if I was gonna do some smoking before next Monday, which I will and would, I would take wire dikes and cut out the bad area... that is if possible, wire tie the cord back... short extension cord and hope like hell...if all else failed I would get a packaged of cook PB out of the freezer and have left-overs,oh well!

Side note, I spent over 1200.00, my part, on fixing car problems 3 times because of them over grown rats.The wife didn't even gripe about me getting rid of the problems, my sympathy to you.

Thanks RibDog for the stew idea. I put the butt in the crockpot to simmer overnight.

Not sure if you have done it before,, but replacing the cord is fairly easy..well mine was on my lill smokette...

Couldn't you just put it in the oven at 225*? Won't be like the smoker, but that'd work. Set it on a rack in a pan.

replacing an electrical cord is simple. Usually can get replacements at local hardware store; just take the old cord with you to ensure you replace with correct size wire. Or if the damage is at a spot where the cord can be shortened just cut off and reinstall the shorter cord.
