I've had a Honda eu2000i for a little over a year and highly recommend it. You could get by with the 1000 but for a little more money the 2000 is a better buy and more versatile.

They are extremely quiet and built to last. They also are very "clean" and can run sensitive electronics like computers. You mention that you are going to the woods..... you want quiet so you don't spoil it for you or others near by.

The one downside is cost..... you can find a 2000 for around 900.... there are many other gens out there for a lot less......

You have to hear one run to appreciate how great it is.

You correct Richard.. they are great. I have a pair of them with the connectivity kit. I did a lot of research, probably too much, to find the best price.. tightwad that I am.. squeek squeek.

The best price I found was at Speedway Sales which included shipping (and no tax).

I do believe you can do a 6 hour cook quite easily on any battery that is capable of providing 70A assuming a 90% efficiency rating of your inverter. Certainly a deep cycle battery like those used in boats, RV's, etc would be inexpensive and QUIET. Smiler A little more info on the battery option. First, I don't know what the cycle times are on the heater.. but, just for some assumptions, let's say it takes about 20 minutes to get the box to temperature (it'll likely be more time) That's (at the battery) 70A for 20 mins. Then 7A for say 6 hours. Or 21AH to get hot then 42 AH to keep it hot. So the sort of battery you would be looking at would be around 60AH. You need to make sure though that it is a "recreational" type meant for driving inverters and stuff and not meant as a car battery. Or it won't last long. So, even if the times above are not correct, a 200+AH deep cycle battery would more than do a 6 hr cook.

ha ha too funny!

But true and a good point!

If you must take your smoker, and a lot of CS owners take them, then it's a question of price. Yes, you can get a generator, but they're either 1) real noisy or 2)not noisy but real expensive.

A good deep cycle marine battery and inverter will set you back about $75. Not sure on amps/etc, haven't calculated the draw of the AQ but it's an interesting question. I run my 2 FE's at every contest on 2 deep cycle, but a high tech inverter.
