I am presently interested in purchasing a concession trailer to work various events in ie. FL in the winter & Ohio in the summer. Is it difficult or easy to get into such events as fairs, festivals, flea markets, rallies, car shows, etc.? Since I am inexperienced at concession vending, I don't want to make a mistake & purchase a nice trailer & not be able to get into such events. I'm sure there will be some you can't get into & some you don't want in, but I wanted to ask & hopefully get some solid advice. Thanks

ratt,
a good source for florida is this
go to www.myflorida.com
hook onto the dept of agriculture
from there go to county fairs
another thing that you will want to look into is the dept of professional and business regulation.
they are the ones who will approve your rig and that will allow you to sell legally (and i have for darned sure had it up to my eyes with illegals!!!)
flea markets in my area are a no go since they have their own food and won't let you compete with them.
farmers markets are good but you will need your mfd and at least 1 mill in liability in my area at least
to do the major events like the florida folk festival you will need to submit a portfolio for their review and if you run on generators yours will have to meet their requirements.
things like bike week be prepared to pay upwards of 10k for the 7 days for a good location. the prime ones go even higher.
from talking to people in new york state and other states florida has about the toughest food regulations
hope this helps some

ps. or you can risk it and do it illegal. civil fine is over 1k/day of operation but i forget what the criminal penalty is
I have to agree with Jack here...get legal and stay legal. Sometimes there are a lot of hoops to jump through but in the end it will be worth it. You will not have to be lookin' over your shoulder or maybe payin' fines or get locked up for the rest of your life or something.

In my area, we started looking at rodeos and horse shows and races and fairs and music events...then contact the organizer or the facility people, depending. We have been busy...almost too busy. It is really cuttin' into my fishin' time!

Best of luck to you, and don't forget to enjoy yourself!
ratt,
One thing that might be helpful. Check with the chamber of commerce for a calendar of events in the area you are considering. I'd do that way ahead of time you are expecting to be there as there is lots of competition in Florida. They usually can tell you who the organizers are and how to contact them.
I would think if you just want to travel a lot, maybe get with one of the organizations that does fairs.
Best of luck to you.
Peggy
