protection for outside storage in the elements? I don't get freezing temps or snow, but I do get rain and wind here. Plus, I'm near the beach and the salty air is hard on steel. I have an all-stainless Smokin Tex.

Edited: I don't know why I said 'Cookshack' in the title. I would probably by the Smokin Tex cover. I assume they are pretty similar. If anyone knows any differentl, please let me know.

Hey Tom -- I have the ST cover for my smoker and it works fine. I've had mine for about a year and a half and have no problems. My smoker stays outside year-round. We don't have salt problems here in Arkansas but we do get some pretty stiff winds come tornado season. I've never had any concerns.

Hope this helps!
I've been using a tarp over mine.. Started out with the generic blue tarp but ended up with a silver one.. they seem to hold up longer. I was going to buy the CS cover but they don't go all the way to the deck.. just to the bottom of the lower cabinet base.. doesn't cover the "floor" of the cabinet or the feet.

Then considered having a custom one built by the guy that rebuilds spa covers.. he did one for my hot tub and it's been in direct sunlight for about 10 years now with no sign of breakdown.. but...

What do I do when it's raining and I want to smoke something? Pull the cover off and leave it exposed? Nah. I stayed with the silver tarp which I've simply tacked to the side of the house with longer map tacks and left it high enough that it clears the long thermometer going down the smoke hole.. and loosely drape it around the smoker.. this allows it to breathe and exhaust fully and stay dry.. I move the tarp to the side a bit when I check the progress.. but otherwise stay s fully covered.

I'm condidering building a "shed" this spring.. possibly one that will cover it, hold wood and accys, and also hold the new ceramic I'm probably going to get for a late Christmas present.. Smiler

Not all smoking is bad for your health
GLH -- The ST cover "does" go all tthe way to the bottom, except for about 2 inches.

LOL Todd G.! Big Grin Imagime me out-running a tornado in a wheelchair (thus the name "Wheelz"). I could probably do it if I rigged a sail and had pleanty of pavement in front of me. My luck I'd hit a pot-hole about Batesville, someone would run over me and GLH would smoke me as "mystery meat!" Big Grin Big Grin
Tomkattt,

I have a CS 55 stainless model and live 300 feet away from the Gulf of Mexico. With the prevailing West winds, everything metal, even stainless steel rusts over time. I keep our smoker in the utility room, still covered with the heavy duty CS cover, and roll it out when needed. No trouble to move and a lot safer than leaving it out, particularly when we went through four (4) tropical storms and hurricanes this fall. Eeker

Wheelz, 2 inches is about what mine lacks going down to the patio floor. I wish it would touch the floor.

weewilly, I smoke in the rain all the time. No problems. I just use a large flat cookie sheet to cover the temperature selector, smoke hole, and probe readout all at once. The rain don't hurt nuttin.
