Well the board hasn't been too busy lately probabley due to so many comps all over. So I figured I'd stir the pot a little. hehe Big Grin

This is a statement made on a message board that shall remain(for now) nameless(bonus points if you guess).

"Steve, I have a WSM and a Smokin Tex electric, which is almost identical to the Cookshack Smokette. I had the WSM first but thought I would be able to make 'Q on workdays or whatever with the electric. But the truth is, no matter what the cookshack people say, the electric does not produce the good bbq flavor that you get from a WSM. The food is OK, but not nearly as good as the charcoal. But it is more convenient and the electricity costs far less than charcoal, and you use miniscule amounts of wood in one of these. So they have their place. But the food isn't as good. I have also been to restaurants that use the commercial Cookshack smokers, and I feel the same; there's something lacking in the flavor of the food."

Now is it just me or does the "truth" mean that this is being said as a statement of fact? And if this was "truth" then does that mean all the trophies won by cookshack(FEC) in competition against WSMs and other charcoal smokers were won over people doing something so wrong with equipment that puts out a superior flavor? Smiler

I own a WSM and have owned a klose offset and many budget offsets and I just can't wrap my head around that "truth". Am I the one that's crazy here? Wink

Truth? Well, it's his version of it. He certainly has a right to feel that way.

What's SAD about his statement, he owns a Smokin'Tex but calls out Cookshack, so he's trying to stir the pot. Call out the ST. Buy putting CS in so much, he's just throwing out the bait. Plus considering the forum is was posted in, he's pretty much biased.

Don't fall for it. He just doesn't know good Q. Oh a WSM and ST means he knows good Q? Huh?

Happens often. If he doesn't like it, he can send it back. Oh wait, ST doesn't have a money back guarantee, but CS does.

I'd also say it's the cook, not the cooker. "food isn't as good" I'd venture to say, someone that knows how to make good Q, could pass his test. If the restaurant food isn't to his liking, that's pretty normal. Lots of people don't like restaurants. He's logic of it's bad food because of a CS is a mis normer.

Hey what forum. I can almost bet which one of a handful of people I've seen before, have come back to say the same thing.

Oh I didn't fall for anything smokin. Big Grin

I just happen to ghost around many forums and from time to time see blanket statements like this.

I don't agree with versions of the truth. I'm a cut and dry type of guy so here's the definition of the word truth.

1: a fact that has been verified; "at last he knew the truth";"the truth is the he didn't want to do it"

2: conformity to reality or actuality; "they debated the truth of the proposition"; "the situation brought home to us the blunt truth of the military threat"; "he was famous for the truth of his portraits"; "he turned to religion in his search for eternal verities"

I don't know.......sounds like he's treadin' close to BS to me. HEHE.

Anyway hope some more chime in.....heck even to argue my stance on versions of the truth.

Oh...and Smokin, I'm off to kick back several Chimay blues with my best bud in honor of his sensei/father figure who passed away yesterday. So I may not be around for all the fun that may happen in this thread. But, I WILL be around for all the Chimay induced fun at the bar tonight!!! Have a good one!! Big Grin Big Grin
Well, Here's the deal. It is hard not to tell yourself that your bbq is the best if you have spent literally all day or night long sweating in the sun loading pounds of wood tending the fire hoping it doesn't rain. Thats perception. However throwing a pork butt in your Cookshack spin'n the dial to 225 and taking out excellent bbq 20 hrs later. all the while during that time getting some sleep, talking with friends, enjoying the game, drinking a cold one in anticipation of enjoying your bbq. Then having all your guests tell you that its the best bbq.... Thats closer to the Truth.
I have a new cookshack smokette, have been using it 2-3 times a week. Very pleased with the results. I had cooked for years on a variety of charcoal and (gasp) gas grills in an effort to get good Q...had good success but only did it 2-3 times a month because of the extra work involved. The smokette generates so much smoke flavor the challenge is not how to get more smoke but how to make sure you don't OVER smoke the food. CS cooking is so easy I think many people feel guilty that they can get such great Q without tending fires all night. With the extra time I suggest you just drink more beer and make better side dishes. OS

I see whatcha did there....and I like it! Big Grin Big Grin
After I bought my CS Amerique, I soon thereafter gave away my WSM. It was a hard battle to convince me that an electric element could produce Q that would be comperable to what a live fire could, but the CS quickly did so, and is so much easier to use & clean-up afterwards. Sometimes it is hard not to be such a thick-headed swede. Thanks to this forum for all the great info on Q'ing. I'm now a loyal CS fan.
Lantern, used a WSM for over 10 years. A great cooker. If the lad or ladette that made this statement can comment on missing anything with the Cookshack, it is work. I have found my (recent) model 55 to be so totally dominant in not only ease of use but also taste. I could not do Back ribs on the WSM as they would dry out. (Well. okay I could; but it involved miles of foil; a messy story) On the 55, no problemo and taste BETTER than the spares I did on the WSM. I don' t want to get into an argument with WSM owners. I love those units, they rock. But you don't give up ANYTHING with the COOKSHACK except lack of sleep.
