Okay okay. I have been reading and learning on this site for 2 months now. I see “Montreal steak seasoning” mentioned very very very often.

Now I have to go buy it and try it on my steak.

The question is what brand should I get? Does brand matter?

FYI – I use to buy garlic and union powder from my local super market (the cheapest brand I could find). Then someone introduced me to Penzeys spices (http://www.penzeys.com). Now I am spoiled and I only buy Penzeys union and garlic powder.

Basically all the same stuff.

Montreal may be a trade name of McCormick's?

Others, call it Canadian.

Others, Northern North America.

Others,Wally's,Targets,Dollar general's,Exxon's,jc penney's.

Kinda like saying salt, pepper, garlic ,and onion, don't hurt beef-if you can cook beef.

If you cook good,it doesn't make much difference.

If you have folks that don't like large granules, buy smaller,or grind it up yourself.

Hope this helps a little.

Some of us just use the term ,generically, for large granule, salt, pepper, garlic, onion.

If you have a little of each in your spice drawer, use it and save money.
Sam's Club carries a line of seasoning mixes that come in a small green container. Several different types. I tried the demo of the steak seasoning they had out a few weeks ago and liked it a lot, but they've been out of it ever since. Sorry I don't remember the brand, but you should be able to find it by the packaging.

They also had McCormick's Montreal, several Weber types, several Lawrey's types.

I got some of the heretofore unknown steak seasoning from Sam's tonight. It is Tone's and is called Steak Dust. Unlike most steak seasonings it is slightly green in color, but very good.
