Need help building a small trailer for catering/competition
Former Member
Can anyone suggest a trailer builder that would be interested in making a small trailer with a FEC 100? I am in Denver, but would drive almost anywhere to pick up the right rig.

don't know if you already have the FEC, but look at this setup on ebay. The guy is selling the trailer and his FEC. It could be a good deal.. At least you can get a look at what seems like a nice little rig.
Here is the trailer I use, it is a 6' by 10' landscape trailer. I haul 2 FEC100's on them to competitions and catering jobs. I bought this new in Oregon for $1500. Here is the website:
Enclosed, not enclosed Just storage or with some kitchen Electrical
You can go with the simple route with an open trailer to just carry the stuff, but I did that for a year and got tired of loading and unloading.
I bought an enclosed trailer, with insulation, electrical, lights and A/C.
There are 1,000's of trailer dealers (just check ebay) if you're just wanting a trailer. If you're wanting one built, there are fewer options. Or buy small and build it out yourself.
I have a custom made 8 1/2 x 14 single axle 6000 pound utility trailer, that I am planning on building some kind of loadable and unloadable, building. I will probably use camper jacks for that. The idea is to have something that looks unique, just like the Q and be able to remove from the trailer if necessary to do an event. Getting a full service outfit into such a small space is going to be an art. But I was thinking of some sort of grounded trolley set up I found someplace on the net.
If you are looking for a concession type trailer do a search in the professional forum, there is information on trailers and converted trucks and the like.
As Smokie says it would be nicke to know really what you are looking at doing.
I have a 8' x 20' that I cook out of now. It has a 8' x 8' sleeping quarters with (2) twin beds and A/C. The kitchen area is 8' x 12' with stainless tops and stainless sink. It has one FE on it and has the mounts for (1) more. It has window awnings that fold and snap down for travel. I am going to sell the first of October. If you or anyone is interested let me know I can send some pics. Smokie has seen it, I think it is a real nice cooking rig.
Hi, I'm the one that has the trailer advertised on ebay. I hate to see it go, but right now, it doesn't look like I'll be doing comps for a few years, and as such, I'm having a hard time justifying keeping the trailer. I'd love to sell it and get another FEC for my deck.
I also built it myself, it's a great little trailer, and I can pretty much store just about everything that is needed for a comp on the trailer, with the exception of EZups, which are in the back of the truck.
If you have an FEC already, as mentioned, and are interested in the trailer, just let me know. I'd be happy to work a deal with you.
All - Thanks for the great replies. The consensus seems to be that I did not clearly enough define my wants & needs in a trailer. Here goes: I would like a small trailer I can fit in one garage bay. (My homeowners association won't let me leave it in the street.) That limits the size to about 7 feet wide, 7 1/2 feet tall and 15 feet deep. I would like to be able to lift, or wheel on and off a FEC 100, a small refrigerator, and perhaps batteries and / or a generator as a backup power supply. Something to affix a tent like cover to the top of poles that can be raised might be nice too, in case it rains during competition or at a catering event. With my 7 1/2 foot height restriction, I probably don't have enough room for a hard top. I am also not sure how best to fix a FEC 100 on wheels and a small refrigerator on wheels down so they don't play pinball while being towed.
And the toughest part, I was kind of hoping to keep it under 2,400 lbs. If that's just impossible, I can always swap my car for a Durango, and pull a lot more. I just have not yet committed yet to laying out that kind of serious cash.
