Need some words of wisdom

I just got my new FEC100, and fired it up to check it out. Seemed like the temps were higher than what I had it set for.
I set the controller at 224, and the unit was running around 242-248. Only let it run for about 40 minutes, and then cut it off. Would it have leveled off, if I had left it running longer?? On my 500 it will stay within 4 degrees all the time.

None of ours has the new controller,but they tend to stabilize after running awhile.

Sometimes, opening the door and dumping a little heat helps us.

Usually, once we get some meats in it,it runs pretty regular.

Hope this helps a little.

It tends to "overshoot" just because you're burning real wood.

Undershoot your temp then when it reaches say 200, turn it up to 224 OR

Give it time to stablize.

I agree with both Smokin and Tom. Don't fall off your chairs guys.

I have a pre-ramp FEC and it runs like a charm. Especially when I get the meat on there.

With no meat in the chamber it takes my new iQ FEC 100 about three hours to come back to 220, I can set it at 140 or 220 and it will go up to 300-338, then back down. I'm just learning to start well ahead of time to get it to temp.

Thanks guys, going to put three brisket flats on tonight a little lower than I have in the 500. And them bring up some in the morning.

Also learn the concept of "dumping"

When it gets close to temp, open the door, let some of the heat out and it won't overshoot as far.

Now, don't leave it open forever, or it will continue to run the heat up.

Smokin,
Your just too good. When I fired it up for real to cook the brisket. It came up to the temp and went 20 degrees higher. Then when I put the meat in, it came back to the cook temp and it stayed there within 6 degrees or so.
