Hello all,

This is my first post here. I just purchased a pellet grill at an estate sale and have discovered there are no pellets of the cooking variety to be found anywhere near me(northern Ohio/southern Michigan). It therefore appears that I will have to have pellets shipped in to me. It appears that to have one 40 pound bag of pellets shipped to me it wlll cost $20 for the pellets and another $15 for shipping for a total of $35! This is bit much in my opinion. I would be willing to purchase in larger quantities to keep the cost per pound below 60 cents shipped. Does anybody know of any pellet vendors that will ship something like 10 bags (400 pounds) of pellets via a trucking company for something like $250 total? Unfortunatly I do not know a single other person near me with a pellet smoker/grill so ordering more than 10 bags at once would not be the best solution.

If anybody knows of any pellet vendors that might be able to assist me I would certainly appreciate it!

Thank you,

pellethead

I know Candy gives a quantity discount for 400 lb. or more shipped by truck. I have been using her pellets for awhile now and really like them. I have not tried Eddie's yet, but probably will at the FEC school in December. Where are you located? I am in Howell, MI and will be making an order soon. Maybe we can get together and split a bulk order. Contact me off list if interested.

Hello all,

Thanks for all of the great replys. it turns out that mchet (Mark), who suggested that we may be able to go in on a single order together, is not too far from me. Hopefully Mark and myself will be able to work something out.

My pellet cooker is the Nomad which I bought used this week. I have not been able to use it since I have no pellets. Unfortunatly, it did not come with an owner's manual and the manufacturer, Reliant, is out of business.

Candy, from reading all of the pellet posts I understand that you have Nomad which you seem to like very well. If you happen to have any Nomad tips/tricks/suggestion I certainly would appreciate them! I already learned from one of the posters that he uses Stove Bright Fire Starter alcohol gel to get his burn pot ignited which sounds like a great idea.

Thanks,

Pellethead,

If you're close to Cincinnati, go to Jungle Jim's. Get a couple of 1# bags just to get your feet wet...that's enough to grill a steak or burgers or salmon.

Be sure an break the pellets up. Nomad likes short pellets. I toss 20# bag on the concrete a time or two before opening. Great frustration reliever.

However you light the pellets, be sure you have a healthy fire before you turn on the fan. Otherwise it'll snuff the fire. I bought a gas fire lighter from WM with a trigger start. Love the thing & use it all the time even to light charcoal.

My Nomad I got new...it had no manual either!

Glad to help you however I can.

Hello everybody,

Thanks for all the replies and E-mails. I ordered 24 20-pound bags of pellets (480 pounds total) from Candy Sue. mchet and myself are going to split the order.

FYI, the cost of shipping large/heavy stuff like a pallet of pellets is quite a bit less if you can have them shipped directly to a business address that has a loading dock (as opposed to a residential address).
