Hi new guy here. I have a couple of questions about the fec100 pellet smoker. Does the heat come from the burning pellets, or an electric heating unit? I'm down here in texas and nobody in my area knows anything about pellet smokers and i've never seen one in person. Please let me know because the web site doesn't make it clear. thanks for your help.

No electric heating unit. When it says 100% wood burning, that's what it means. The heat comes from burning pellets.

There is an igniter that ignites for the first 3 min then there rest of the time it's 100% pellet fueled.

There is an auger that feeds pellets on top of the burning pellets and they're self sustaining. There is a fan to keep air moving so the first doesn't die out.

More questions?

Come up to a comp in Oklahoma this year and see one in action.

Most of the events are north or northeast of OKC. Don't know of any south of OKC anytime soon.

It puts out plenty of heat. If you read through the forum you'll see people that use them at 400+ (although the latest versions have a heat switch to keep them from getting too hot).

It's pretty simple, need more heat, just auger in pellets faster.

I hope to get to some Texas/IBCA contests this year. Just keep an eye out in the contest schedule and see where I might be and if that's in the area.

The state championship will be in Dripping Springs March 4/5. I'll be there. If your ? is are they legal at comps, the answer is yes. You will be hard pressed to see one in Texas though. I did run in to a ole cue man who was a judge at a comp I was at, Stanley Roberts, I think was his name. He told me he had been cooking on a Fast Eddy for years. Said he bought one of the first ones Eddy made.
Hey Freebird, thanks for the info. Its been really really dry around here. It stinks about the championship. I'm gonna try and make it to one of the OK cook-offs hoping to lay my eyes on a FE. If anyone will be around north texas or southern OK, I would like to here from you so I can try to get there. Thanx For all the help, Ya'll are AWESOME!!!
