I just purchased the cookshack smokette and realize this is a new found hobby that I love, it's my first smoker and I'm quite excited. I was wondering if anyone knew of any BBQ clubs or forums that are in the Richmond, VA area. I want to look for local folks who share the same interest in Q'ing or if there are any good websites that I should check out to find out more about the art of smoking foods and to find out more about competitions.

For forums, this is the best one going to help with your new purchase.

Check the link at the very top of the owners forum "start here" and it will get you started.

You won't be able to use the Smokette in "sanctioned" contests (such as KCBS) because the fuel source is electric, not wood. CS makes the Pellet Cookers (FEC100, etc) to use in Comps.

Welcome to the group

Cool Smoke cooking team opened a new full service bbq restaurant, and maybe bar in the Richmond area this month.

He is now finishing his inspections and open.

Sorry,I've lost the name and locale.

He is currently the top comp team in KCBS and has been a top caterer in your market for years.

Stop in and tell him hello from FireHouseBBQ in Fl.

We have cooked against Tuffy and his father, often.

He just received his second Jamie Geer stickburner and they would be worth a visit to see.

He doesn't cook on Fast Eddy's by Cookshack, but he knows them well.

Tuffy can steer you to the clubs and cookoffs in the larger area.
Hi Tom,

Do you know if the new place they opened is called "Q" Barbeque by chance? I checked this place out last week which is new to the area and noticed they were using electric smokers but they weren't Fast Eddy's. There are several new places that opened around town so I was curious if this was the one. I noticed many trophies and awards so I'm thinking that might be the place. He didn't open a franchise did he? There are several that have opened up around town in the last month. Seems like BBQ is the hot thing these days. Anyway, thanks for the info. I will go back and check it out to see if I can get more info on the clubs and cookoffs.

It could be,and it won't have any franchises.

A post from a visitor,yesterday.

My family and I went to Tuffy's new resteraunt before the Eastern Carolina BBQ Throwdown. We ordered pulled pork, ribs, chicken, and brisket. It was all good; I especially liked the ribs and brisket. We also ordred the lemon chess pie and banna pudding. Both were very good, particularly the lemon chess pie. The restuarnt is nice and the people are very friendly. I will be going back.

a local food writer and her husband show up at your restaurant to eat, at the same time a group, including the owner of a great local barbeque restaurant show up to check us out? Well, I got real nervous and cooked my skinny ass off. I think they all liked it, but I am ready for a beer!

He has been working the business plans, etc for years and is good at what he does

There are times at cookoffs that he may have 12-15 caters going around Richmond, while he is on the road.

I guess you can call over there and ask if that is Tuffy's new place.

I believe he said the two main cookers would be Ol Hickory's,and you could see them from the dining room.

Tuffy should be on the road to Dover cookoff.

I guess you'll see the article ,someplace.

Have fun.
