So I have decided to bite the bullet and purchase a fec100 so I have been reading all the posts i can trying to learn as much as i can before i order it. While reading i have come up with a concern about all the fires that so many people seem to have. I know most people run them all night when doing biskets but im a little concerned about doing that what if it catches fire at 2am? Now i know alot of that depends on keeping it clean and all but several people say they have had a fire when they cleaned after each cook. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I personally don't think it's a concern. Like EX posted, there is a potential condition to watch and it's usually chicken at VERY high temps (usually over 350). You'll see more "issues" posted about things not working, than about people and they good things (just the nature of forums)

Keep it clean, keep the firepot clean and it'll work like a champ.
Like Smokin' says, over the last few years,at comps, where we often travel 1500 miles, roundtrip, and maybe a couple grand total expense, and four plus days on the road, with four different models of FEC s,this is our approach.

Put the big meats on at 8 PM,let the cooker be stable until about 8:30 PM.

Go to motel for the night, come back to cooksite about 6AM to get ribs ready to go on and see what the organizer has out for breakfast.

Yep,fire worries me so much,I almost can't sleep peacefully the whole time. Wink
So when i use the 100 i planned on rolling it out of the garage and using it i wouldnt have a need for extra smoke stack since its not in a trailer so will this affect it with the wind blowing out the fire? Sorry for all the questions but 3600 is a lot of money for an poor Air Force boy
