I have an FEC NSF model and one that is the UL ramp model. I've looked at the new ones with the Cookshack controller, but I don't think I'll buy one because of reported longer time to recover cooking temperature after the door's opened. I've noticed a big difference between my models in recovery times. Plus, I can't get the temp up over 325 on the "ramp" model. If I could, I'd buy another old, straight auger model. How are you ever going to do chicken on the new one?

I haven't heard this from Smokin Okie, but Smokin Clone told me about the slow recovery on the newest FEC configuration in Bentonville (didn't hurt him any -- got a couple or more calls!). The new controller is in a big box that sticks out of the hopper. I expect it probably will retro-fit on the straight auger, but Cookshack would know for sure.

Joe, I got two ramp models myself. One I use the other one's still wrapped up. Going to install it on the brand-new porch at work.
