Paid $1.79 at BJ's last week... 30 cents up from the previous week.

Here are some excerpts from a SYSCO market report I received this morning. Not very encouraging Frowner

Live Cattle Prices Set New Highs again How much higher can the cash cattle market keep going given the fact that packer margins are reportedly negative now. The packers will likely reduce production this week in an effort to move the price of boxes up. Exports continue to support the live cattle and beef markets with sales above last year.

Pork prices expected to increase from February to March The table on the first page of Meat Markets under a Microscope, paints a picture of rising pork costs on seasonal increase in demand and a slight increase in production. Frozen pork belly inventory as reported by USDA is less than last year, however CME approved warehouses reported 8 million pounds more than USDA. An increase in inventory may keep the belly market from performing this summer as it did last year. Wholesale beef prices were 19% more in February this year compared to last year, and actually posted a record. How long can this continue? Prices will be under downward pressure as consumers react to the higher prices late spring into summer.
