Hello all. I'm new to this great forum.

Last summer I messed around with one of them $59.00 Brinkman one speed water smokers. What a mistake. Under done, over done, too much smoke, too little smoke. Anyway, I'm going to purchase my first real smoker for just my wife and I. We're going with the SM008 model. I have a couple question to start with. I'm sure I'll have a bunch down the road. Thanks much.

Where does the smoke vent from on the SM008?

The stand is quite pricey for the SM008. What do you SM008 owners use to set your smoker on if you don't have the stand?

There is a small vent hole in the top of the 008.

I just graduated to a 008 from an old Brinkman smoker. It was a fantastic move. My first smoke was perfect ... It's a bit of a no-brainer, or more importantly, it's a no-mistaker. To be sure, not all things will cook in exactly the right time, but everything is so controlled, it is great. I have an old kamado oven, and while it does a great job on some things, the 008 makes life much easier.

You will be glad you got one once you have it.
Welcome to the Cookshack Nation, CEB! Congratulations on your new smoker -- you are going to love the food you can make with it.

People use all kinds of things for stands. The most important thing is, of course, safety. You must make sure that the stand is substantial enough to support the Smokette with no danger of tipping. I have seen people use metal food carts from Sam's and Lowe's, custom built wooden stands, tables ... all kinds of things. You might have something in the garage that would work just fine without spending a penny.

dear CEB , i own the same unit now for more than 2 years and mine sits on top of my stove allowing me to utilize my oven vent to get rid of any smoke coming out of the vent . i just place a half inch piece of cut plywood on top of the burners and then place the smoo8 on top of that and i have never had a problem . when your done smoking you just take it down . i live in northern nevada and when the wind is'nt blowing 60 miles an hour its freezing this solution has served me well . good luck and good smokin'
I use a $90 table from Walmart. Has a formica top and adjustable leg height. Works very well for my 055 which is a bit heavier than the 008.

One nice feature of having the table is that it is long enough to provide an area in front of the door where I can place the food, catch any drippings or rub that comes off or use as a cutting board. (I have a cutting board in that area which makes clean up easier)

BTW, I left the wheels on the 055 while it sits on the table. Not a problem. I put some washers under the wheel to keep it from rolling.

If you take the wheels off of your 008, there will be no place for the grease to go out of the grease drain at the bottom of the unit. (no room for the drip pan)
Yeah CEB, I got the stand from CS sitting under my 008. I'm not real happy with the door design. It has a round magnet to hold the door closed except it is round and hits the outside edge so the door does not close completely. Has about a 1/4" gap all around. Maybe it's part of the design, maybe a mistake. It is fixable but I wish it came from the factory with a door that closed all the way. It is handy to store stuff. Somebody posted about having a bit of area right under the door to catch stuff. That's where a table would be nice to give you 6 - 8 - 12 inches to work with right under the door. Stuff is always falling off the meat or the grills. I'm new at this but I have to tell ya. The food that comes out of this cooker is unbelievable. Everything and I mean everything coming out of this smoker is great!!!.. Vent hole is on the top - right in the middle. Oh yeah, get a cover for it and if ya get the stand get the long cover. Good luck and enjoy.

Here's a picture of my table setup, although it doesn't show much of the table.

Note the large platter in the foreground which is sitting in front of the door. There is now also a large plastic cutting board there.

The 055 has a 'slot' for the drip pan which keeps it up off the table. The 008 does not have the slot so the drip pan just sits under it. No real difference either way.

I also don't have a cover since the 055 sits under the overhang of the roof. Works well for me, even in the sub-freezing weather we have here in MI.

Well, sorry about that... The forum won't let me upload the picture because it says my FTP login is wrong. Even though the forum says I am logged in.
