Broke.

I don't like the way they tackweld or spotweld the grate channel stay buttons on the walls. The rear left side of mine had broke its weld and was floating around inside. The grates and boxes were all akimbo when I opened the door. Bummer.

It didn't look right when I opened it. A quick inspection revealed the defect or damage, and it has to go back to the factory.

A close inspection of the knob shows an imperfect weld, with very little actual metal infusion. It looks like some sort of machine tacks those buttons on with a spot weld or something.

Guess I'll be waiting a while, it's after hours now, I'll have to call them tomorrow.

Anyone had to ship one back? Can you do a return shipping?

received my replacement Model 008 today, everything is peachy. I must admit that Cookshack has incredible customer service. When I called to set up shipping, they handled it immediately, and UPS was at my door the next day to pick up the unit. I received my new unit the very next day. Outstanding.

It's out back right now smokin' in. Sweet, BBQ this weekend.

The first go round on my model 50 had to be sent back due to some pretty bad handling by the shipping company (won't mention any names here). It was no mystery how it got in that condition... in that I watched the driver take one off the truck and flip it end over end a few times, all 120+ lbs of it.

I can attest to the quality of my CS unit. I have others and they're not as well built.

I sympathize. Hang in there.

Don't sweat it, they make it right, 100% I know what the wait is like, and that sucks, but these folks will stand behind the product and make you happy! I recieved my Smokette in Nov/Dec and love it, use it almost weekly.. Keep drinkin, it will make the time pass by much quicker.. Big Grin

p.s. try and post what happens after your call, it will be nice for other "future" owners to see the end result..
On my recently delivered Smokette, the front, right, "button" on which the side racks hang was welded on too high, which meant that my right-hand rack could not be installed in the upper-most position. I just lived with it but I, like you, was surprised to see that level of workmanship.
