Had my smokette about a year now and just love it to death. Turkey seems to be the favorite around here, the CS just yields such a moist bird that those who wouldn't look at white meat before just fight for the scraps. I have had my CS up on bricks off the ground and under the deck with the offical CS cover on it. All the same it has flaked a bit of paint off around the bottom edges. Question: is a regular bbq high temp flat black the right paint to touchup after a light sanding? And then, how do I keep it fresh? Also, I have worn my grilles down to the brass, as in no chrome left in the center of the racks. Does CS offer a more durable grille? I just clean it with dish detergent and a chore girl type scrubbing sponge. The sides are fine, but apparently the acids from the meats have removed the chrome. Is this a health or safety problem?thanks, bj.

Mornin',bj-rider.

That's how I approached touchup on mine.

When I get ready to put it away,I usually wipe a few drops of a light oil around on the touched
up area.

Not great, but it works pretty well after about three years.

As to cleaning the racks,I spray them with a little Simple Green or Greased Lightning and let them set in the sun a few minutes.

I then hose them off and place in a shallow tub with one of the above chemicals and hot water for a couple of hours.

They usually rinse pretty clean.

I don't know of any heavier coated racks, but some folks have just ordered new ones.

Hope this helps some.
