well we are doing it again. talked to john shiflet today and just got done emailing him that we are buying another SM150. while we still have the fec and love it the additional SM will give us a lot more versatility in our case.
we will still continue to use bbqers delight pellets as we have always done in both of our smokers and i will at last have a place to mount the hood unit i bought with the first SM (never used it since the first one was under a hood system with the fec).
while i still must have the fec to compete from a purely money stand point the SM was meeting our needs totally for sales and for sure makes the health inspectors happy with the auto hold feature and for that reason we chose to get another SM unit.
I have my log book where i can match the taste and color of any product i do in the fec and that was another factor.
to be honest as much as i like to compete i like making money better so my end game thinking is this.
the fec will go into a tiny trailer that will be used for competitions and the sm will replace it in the main rig. from that i will get the best of both worlds as with the reduced weight in towing my gas mileage will increase.
both units are great and i love then both and we sure do love cookshack

the thing i like best about them is the cooked meat weight.
with the sm we get between 40-45% shrinkage and the fec is consistantly in the 50% area.
5-10% doesn't sound like a lot but if you take it out to one year it works out to 60-120% better and that is bucks.
that's what decided it for us but dont get me wrong i still love my fec100 and i am still a pellet head. sometimes i munch them and sometimes i smolder 'em.
