My new fec 100 has been working great. Yesterday a neighbor waited some beef ribs. one problem. They were frozen.Smoked about 2 hrs and then finished off at 280. They said taht they were really good.
Ques: Does any one use external thermometers in addition to the probe? If so what are the pros and cons? Can we mention brands? If not please send a Private message.

I've had good luck with the Maverick ET-7 with two meat probes. That'd be 3 with the smoker's probe. I'll monitor a couple items if I'm doing 2 or more, or place two probes (one from the Cookshack) in one item if that's all I'm cooking.

Doesn't have to be a remote though. MaxQue's suggestion seems fine and reasonably priced. Looks like you can see the display from a distance so that option looks good.
