A note from Paul Schatte, Fast Eddy's guest instructor at the last cooking class ...

"Cookshack gang, Just keeping track of a couple of members of the 2nd Cookshack Cooking Class. Robert Waddell, Habitual Smokers, won the Grand Champion title in Joplin, MO, June 11 and Reserve Grand Champion title in Tulsa, June 25. A newcomer to the competition scene this year Steve Krauss, Regal BBQ, has cooked two contests since the class. He was a little disappointed after his first contest but was all smiles last weekend at the Harpoon Brewery contest in Windsor, VT. Steve won Reserve Grand Champ. Not too bad for only his second contest. I haven't checked with other class members to see what they have done.

Any other class members want to report in?

I can't take credit yet (FE told me so) until I win a GC or RGC.

But in 7 contests, I have about 19 ribbons. 2 first, a couple of 2nd and lots more in the top 10.

Guess I didn't pick up enough help, although I have to say I'm getting beat by Paul in these contests.

Got two more this year, we'll wait and see.
Hey, I only beat you by 5 points. I am proud, but FE has fun giving me a hard time because I don't have a GC yet.

Hey you mentioned "giving up" somewhere. You better not. Maybe we just need to team up and smoke together. You're RV seems like it would be a great place for a team hang out.
I see how you are, use a guy for his AC Smiler

Not giving up, just stepping back for a bit. I have gotten top 3 calls in eveyhting but BUTT, and IMNTBHO, you will never get to RGC or GC, without all 4 being decent. I know if I get top 3 calls in in 3 of the 4 I am in the running for it, but with my pork scores being consistently in the bottom 1/3 and I have tried a number of different things, I am just going to sit out a while and judge and perhaps lend my rib abilities to some other teams, and perhaps they will teach me their Butt techniques.

I am done competiting for the season, and my Jed and trailer are for sale (as is the trailer, I want an RV Smiler ) but I am keeping my FEC and recipies.

I have not stopped BBQing as rumors abound, I have just stopped competiting for now.

Hell, as a judge I get to see the same great folks and have the same great time.

Thanks

Christian
