A Butt Question

I have several butts to cook for this weekend. I was wondering...if you cut your butts in half to smoke them, will it affect the overall product? I heard it will increase you bark area (which I like), but will it affect the flavor or tenderness?

There are folks that butterfly butts, to increase the bark area.

If you cook them correctly,IMO it won't affect taste/tenderness.

Cooking whole,bonein does give the handy tenderness check of shaking the bone.
